FK&Y’s Dr Barbie Clarke and Dixons Carphone’s Deputy CEO Andrew Harrison spoke at the MRS Annual Conference today
Barbie and Andrew spoke about the inception of charity Techknowledge for Schools at the session ‘Research for Good’. Andrew explained how he and Dixons Carphone CEO Seb James wanted to help children to have equal access to technology in schools, giving them the opportunity to learn to work collaboratively and independently, preparing them for future employment. He said:
We thought what if every child in the 21st century, could have a real interactive tablet that would give them access to every book ever written, videos of inspiring lessons by teachers anywhere in the world, the ability to hear music, languages and watch videos of places at the touch of a button. What would happen if every child had access 1-2-1 to this technology, changing the face of education? We started to talk to business, education professionals and Government. We enrolled others in the industry Samsung, Aviva, Apple, Google, HP, Microsoft, Virgin, Talk Talk have all helped on our journey. FK&Y brought schools, a pedagogy group and most of all the credibility and insight that led us to create charity Techknowledge for Schools at the very heart of which has built the world’s largest research project into mobile technology in education. The impact of what we did is today used by thousands of schools across the UK, and a recent email I received sums this up:
To Whom It May Concern,
Never have I read a more interesting and brilliant research article than the one I have just read this evening. Tablets For Schools’ research on the impact of Tablets in the classroom is just beyond incredible. Everyone inside and outside of education should see this report. Stokley Academy
